I have the honour to transmit the en-

closed transcript of telegraphic correspondence with you

on the subject of the grant of a 99 years lease of certain Crown land with the option of renewal for one term of 99

years,

Although your despatch No.133 of the

23rd. of May 1808 and paragraph 3 of your despatch No.320 $ of the 9th. of December 1899 appeared to fanction the grant

of such a lease, the terms of your despatch No.124 of the 5th.of July last sermed to indicate that it was your inten- tion only leases of 75 years with option of renewal for one term should be granted, and the reference to you "as there- fore made.

I may mention that the land in respect 01 which the grant of the longer lease was desired has now been purchased by the Firm of Butterfield and Swire for $100,860. subject to an annual Crown rent of $ 8,680.
